Semester Workshops Spring 2017
Spring 2017 Faculty Development Workshops
Faculty have the opportunity to participate in Research that Reaches Out workshops throughout academic year. These workshops are curricular in nature and are intended to educate faculty members and stimulate discussion on effective practices for integrating research and service in our work with students. The spring 2017 workshop topics are derived from survey data received by faculty colleagues, from conversations QEP Director Dr. Bridget Trogden held with faculty in fall 2016, and from needs identified through assessment. As our QEP continues to unfold, we will always continue to use your feedback in designing future learning opportunities.
What's in a Name? Metacognition, Reflection, Integration and How to Use Them With Students
This workshop was held on March 17 & 21. If part of our current Mercer tag line includes "where everyone majors in changing the world," how do we do that as faculty? By helping students to reflect and integrate and use metacognition to connect their actions and experiences to their growth. This workshop facilitated the sharing of data of what our students wish their professors had asked them, along with concrete examples of prompts to stimulate student learning. Links to the slides, handouts, and example assignments can be found here. (Mercer login required).
Going Beyond the Traditional Research Paper
This workshop, held on Feb 2 & 3, was designed for faculty to think about research-based assignments and how to move the level of engagement beyond just the student and the professor. Links to the slides, handouts, and example assignments can be found here. (Mercer login required).
