Semester Project Support
Grants are available to support Research that Reaches Out projects in the 2017-2018 fiscal year.
In 2017-2018, the Explore (intermediate) and Express (advanced) phases are operational and we will prioritize projects that connect with the student learning outcomes at those levels. (See Expose Explore Express and Timelines.)
Details for Funding
In order to receive funding through the Semester Project Support program, the project must directly contribute to student learning at the Explore or Express level. Priority is for projects that will directly involve Macon traditional undergraduate students.
Any Mercer employee who works directly with Macon traditional undergraduate students and who has plans to impact their learning at the Explore or Express levels can apply. (Those interested in conducting summer projects with students, should apply through the Student Summer Research Program. Students, student groups, and student organizations should look for funding of their project ideas through the Visionary Student Panel & Projects Initiative.)
Funds requested are for projects during fiscal year 2017-2018, and must be spent by June 30, 2018.
Funds can be used for supplies, travel, or other relevant expenses that directly support the project. Funds cannot be used for faculty or student stipends or to support travel for dissemination. Travel funding for students to present their research is allocated by the Office of the Provost.
Each project will likely be unique, and likewise, the funding needs will be unique. We have budgeted for average awards of $3,000 per project, but are happy to consider projects at funding levels below $3,000. The maximum allocation we can consider for this type of grant is $6,000 per project.

How to apply
There are 3 chances to apply for Semester Project Support. Application due dates are:
- 5pm on September 1, 2017
- 5pm on December 1, 2017
- 5pm on February 1, 2018

Applications will be reviewed by the Appropriations Subcommittee. You will be notified if your project has been selected no later than three weeks after the due date.
